I was sent your name as an expert on the Dutcher family. I have been hunting my family for 25yrs. with no luck. My gt-gt grandfather was William Peter Dutcher born May 20, 1844 near the Catskill Mts. New York. according to his civil war papers. His parents were Wm Dutcher and Gretchen Hunish according to the LDS file, and was submitted by my grandfathers sister Zora Mamie who was raised by her grandparents. I am including my line and hope you can help me.

William Peter Dutcher b. May 20, 1844 d. Mar 21, 1921 Ft. Lupton, Colorado

marr: July 4, 1865 St. Paul, Minn to Martha Ann Deane or Doane b. Aug 6, 1844 Doane, Green co. Ind. d. June 10, 1911 Elkader, Kansas

children:

1 Eyances King b. 1867 Canada/Wisc. d. 1869 ?

2 Jesse Edgar b. Sept 25, 1870 Wisc. d. 1895

3+ Wm Franklin b. Dec 31, 1871 Iosco, Livingston co. Mich. d. Mar 21, 1933 Carthage, Missouri. Marr Bertha May Gowey

4 Ebenezer Doane b. 1874 d. 1876

5 Zora Anne b. Nov. 16, 1877 Omaha Neb. d. Nov 27, 1893 marr Sanford Davis.

Wm Franklin Dutcher marr Nov 27, 1892 Kearney, Buffalo co. Neb

2 George Allen b. July 14, 1896 Neb. d. Aug 30, 1979 Mulvane, Kans marr Ruby, Alice, Maude.

3 Zora Mamie b. Aug 3, 1892 Lincoln, Neb. marr Emmett Smith Dec. 23, 1908 at Elkader, Kans. and Asa Henderson Smith at Westport, Mo. She submitted to the LDS, but I have never found her anywhere. She was kidnapped by her grandparents and never seen again. They told the guard on night duty of the wagon train they were going back to the old country, but I found them in Neb. In the school records in Neb it lists her as a granddaughter. They also have other small children living with them; John b. 1895, Willy b. 1897, Mabel b. 1899. I have no idea who these children are either. They were also on the school records.

I found a book in Iowa on the old Dutcher family in New York. I have tried to connect these two families together, but have had no luck. I hope you can give me some clues. Thanks.

Subject: Wm P. Dutcher/Jesse Edgar Dutcher

I am hunting the parents of Wm P. Dutcher b. May 20, 1844 near the Catskill Mts., NY. He marr a Martha Anne Deane or Hammer b. Ind 1844. His children; Eyances King b. 1867 Canada d. 1869 ?, Jesse Edgar b. Sept 25, 1870 d. 1895 where?, Wm Franklin b. Dec. 31, 1871 Iosco, Michigan d. Mar 21, 1933 Carthage, Mo., Ebenezer Doane b. 1874 d. 1876, Zora Anne b. Nov 16, 1877 d. Nov 27, 1893 where?, Zora marr Sanford Davis from Colo. Wm P. died Mar 21, 1921 Ft. Lupton, Colorado., Jonathan Janes b. June 22, 1892 d. Sept 20, 1892.

I could use some help on this line. It has been a brick wall for years. Wm P.'s father may have been a Wm who marr Gretchen Hunish b. Germany. On the 1850 NY census there are 14 Wm Dutcher's none with a wife Gretchen, but some have a son Wm. There is also a George Dutcher in Ulster co. who has a son Wm P. Does anyone know how I can prove this? I have Wm P.'s civil war papers that tells all the places he has lived and his wife's name. He lists all his children as dead before him which was not true. He ran off with his granddaughter Zora Mamie telling the wagon train night quard to tell them he was going back to the old country. However, I found him in Neb. with Zora. No one ever heard from her again.

According to the LDS records that were submitted by Zora Mamie Smith, all of these people were born in Madison, Wisconsin including Wm P. I have Wm P.'s birth certificate proving he was born in Michigan and his death certificate from Colorado. According to the census records the children were not born in Wisconsin. Zora Anne was b. Omaha, Neb. Eyancis in Canada. Zora Anne was married to Sanford Davis and died before he did. He is the one who filled out Wm P. Dutchers death certificate with all the info being unknown.

Zora Mamie married Emmett Smith Dec 23, 1908 at Elkader, Logan co., Kansas at the home of her grandparents Wm P. and Martha Anne. Martha died at Elkader June 10, 1911 and is buried in the Pool Cemetery according to the Logan co. Historical Society records. Zora Mamie's 2nd marr was to Asa Henderson Smith in Rockport, Missouri. Her last known address is 212 Elna or Elma St., Cameron, Missouri when the info was submitted to the LDS library. I cannot find her buried there or find any traces of her after that. This is my grandfathers sister and no one has ever been able to find her.

I would appreciate any suggestions to these Dutcher's. I would like to know where all of these kids are buried, where Zora Anne and Zora Mamie are buried and the parents of Wm. P. This families known places of Residence; Kearney, Hastings, Neb 1900, 1880 St. Joseph, Mo., 1912 Logan co, Kans., Livingston co, Mich in 1871, Canada in 1869, Winona, Minn in 1860 is where Wm P. enlisted in the civil war (he served in the Dakota's as a scout and was called "DEVILISH DUTCH"), in Canada he was north of Kirchner maybe 100mi., in Winona, Minn he is living with an Elizabeth Dutcher who is a widow (who is she), Ft. Lupton, Arapahoe co. Colorado.

I would appreciate any help on this family. I would even pay someone if they could find Wm. P. Dutcher's parents or siblings. If Jesse Edgar lived that long what happened to him. I have a picture my family gave me that says "UNCLE EDGAR DUTCHER".

My DUTCHER family starts with WILLIAM PETER DUTCHER b. May 20, 1844 near the Catskill Mts. in NY. He married MARTHA ANN HAMMER July 4, 1865 St. Paul, Minn. He enlisted in the 2nd Minn Cav and fought in the Indian Wars in the Dakotas too. He was a scout in the Indian Wars and his nickname was "DEVILISH DUTCH". He is found living in 1860 with and ELIZABETH DUTCHER in Winona, Minn. I don't know who Eliz is. She is the head of the house, so evidentley a widow. WILLIAM AND MARTHA had 6 children that I know of; WM FRANKLIN b. Dec 31, 1871 in Iosco, Mich. who marr BERTHA MAE GOWEY. ZORA ANNE b. Nov 16, 1877 Omaha, Neb. who marr SANFORD DAVIS of Ft. Lupton, Colo., EYANCIS KING b. 1867 Canada d. 1869 ?, JESSE EDGAR b. Sept. 25, 1870 d. 1895?, EBENEZER DOANE b. 1874 d. 1876, and JONATHAN JANES b. June 22, 1892 d. Sept 20, 1892. WM died in Ft. Lupton, Colo. Mar 21, 1921 and Martha died in Elkader, Logan co., Kans. June 21, 1921. According to some family history Wm's father was WM DUTCHER who married GRETCHEN HUNISH. However I haven't been able to prove that yet.

WILLIAM FRANKLIN DUTCHER marr Bertha Mae GOWEY b. May 27, 1877 Coucil Bluffs, Iowa on Nov 27, 1892 in Kearney, Neb. Their children; BENJAMIN FRANKLIN b. July 11, 1894 Barnes, Iowa who marr. July 11, 1915 to HANNAH ESTELLE FOWLER in Tulsa, Okla. GEORGE ALLEN DUTCHER b. July 14, 1896 Kay co., Neb. who was married 3 times to ALICE, MAUDE, AND RUBY. Their only dau was ZORA MAMIE DUTCHER b. Aug 3, 1892 Lincoln, Neb. who marr twice (1) EMMETT SMITH Dec 23, 1908 Elkader, Ks and (2) ASA HENDERSON SMITH in Rockport, Mo. She had two children who died. Zora Mamie was stolen by her grandparents when she was 2 and never seen again. She is the one who submitted the files to the LDS and her last know address is 212 Elma in Cameron, Mo. I have not been able to find where she died or is buried.

My grandfather Benj looked for her until he died with no luck. In the Neb. school records I also found a JOHN, WILLY,AND MABEL with Wm P. Whose children are these?

I also have an old bearded man in a picture from the family files that says from UNCLE EDGAR DUTCHER. We don't know who he is either. We believe he is a brother to Wm. I believe this Dutcher family is from the one in NEW YORK, but cannot connect them. I have not been able to prove who WM P. DUTCHER's father is. There is a Wm and a George Dutcher with a son Wm in NY in 1850 and there is a Wm in Minn that are the right age.

BERTHA MAE GOWEY is from the SOLOMON ABSELESE GOWEY line in ALBANY, NY. Her line is the JUDSON, PORTER, CURTIS, HAWLEY line who were in CT. MARTHA ANN HAMMER was b. in 1844 Ind. and is from EZRA JON HAMMER AND ELIZABETH DOANE. Ezra's father was JEREMIAH HAMMER AND POLLY ANN BARNETT. Eliz's mother was from JACOB DOANE AND SARAH SHILLTOE.

I would love to hear from someone who knows of the DUTCHER family. I have tried for years to solve this mystery with no luck. It is very important to my family to find where ZORA MAMIE DUTCHER is buried. The file she submitted in 1983 gave her address as Cameron, Mo., but there are no records for her in the cemetery. She would have been too old to have gone very far. HELP PLEASE!

I only have one uncle and my mother left in our family and I am one of the oldest of the Dutcher clan, so our resources are limited in the family. Our grandparents died when I was 10 so most of the younger kids, don't even know them. I am trying to preserve what I can.

I found a JEREMIAH B. DUTCHER 34 B. NY marr to a ELIZA A. 40 b. Pa with
children: EDMONDM 16 B. NY, ELIZA 8, WILLIAM P. 7 B. NY; EMILINE A 1 B.
WISCONSIN, and a BENJAMIN W. MCCAUBIE 15 b. NY. They are family #831 in
Pleasant Valley, Marq, Wisconsin in 1850. Does anyone know anything
about this family. I am especially interested in their son William P.
