Sandy and Fran are sisters researching the same Dutchers so I've put them on the same page.

My sister (AOL SuttaFran) and I are researching our Barrickman / Turk part of the family. Our GGGrandfather married a Sarah Elizabeth Dutcher. We understand you might be researching the Dutcher surname.
Sarah Elizabeth Dutcher born 1830 in NY. She was from Westkill, Green Co. (then Ulster or Albany Co.) and married 5/18/1851 at Shandaken, Ulster Co., NY to Samuel Turk b 3/16/1827 Lexington, Greene Co. NY.
Sarah and Samuel Turk had seven children, Rozella (Rosella) Sarah b 5/16/1850 either in Lexington NY or La Salle Co, IL, Edgar J Turk b 1855, George Edwin b 1858, Loretta b 1861, Erline b 1867, Cordelia May b 1870 and Samuel Jr. b 1871. I do not know where these children were born, but the Rozella married in La Salle Co., IL. Whether the family moved or she was there apart from the family, I don't know.
Other surnames that are in the family about that time include: Humphrey, Hyde, Peterson, and Chamberlain. Many lived in Greene Co., NY and in places like Lexington, Brockton, Halcott, Westerloo, and Windham.
We now have an additional Dutcher family that we have little information on. It is the Henry Dutcher family - he married into our Van Deusen family. Info is below:
Name - Birth date - Birth place
Dutcher, Abraham 1743
Dutcher, David 1741
Dutcher, Dereck 1734
Dutcher, Henry abt 1721 E. Van Deusen
Dutcher, Jacimitia 1736
Dutcher, Janaca 1736
Dutcher, Matthew 1739
If you have any information on this family or suggestions of names to pursue, I'd really appreciate hearing from you,
Sandra Reuther
Sandra,
I have information on a Sarah Dutcher born in Greene County about 1832. Siblings had children born in Shandaken. Parents of Sarah are James Dutcher and Mary Andrews. I have more information on all these people but I got it all from Doris Dutcher Jones in Coupeville, Washington
You should contact her for more information.
I have this on the Van Deusen connection:
Henricus Duyscher, son of Dirch De Duyster and Jannotje Bond, married Eleanor Van Deusen, daughter of Abraham Van Deusen and Jacomyntje Van Schoonhoven in 1697. Kids were Dirck, Jacomyntie, Mathew, David, Jamaca, Abraham, and Isaac.
I got this (and more) from the Walter Griffin article in the NY Gen & Bio Record. This is a "must-have" for anyone researching Dutchers. It is available on microfilm from the LDS. Let me know if you have difficulty finding it and I'll help you out.
Good luck,
Sharon
I'm Sandra's sister, Sharon. I did write to Doris Jones in Coupeville last spring. She sent me a bit of information and was going back to NY to do some research during the summer. I haven't heard back from her and will have to write her again after the holidays. She suspected our Sarah was part of her family because of the dates and locations, but also because of land transactions between the Dutchers and Chamberlains. Sarah's mother-in-law was a Chamberlain.
I believe she thought our Sarah might be the daughter of George Dutcher and Sally Maria Mase. Doris said Sarah would have been a sister to her grandfather, James Walton Dutcher. I wondered if she made a mistake because James would have been quite old to be Doris's grandfather. Is this the same James Dutcher married to Mary Andrews that you mentioned??? She didn't give me any information on that family.
I would really appreciate any information you have on these families. It will at least give me some names, dates and locations to begin searching. Do you have any info on the Chamberlain family? Any Hyde or Turk in your lines?
Gosh, this is pretty neat. Hope to hear from you with some details. Please copy to my sister Sandra (SandyinBC@aol.com) when you answer.

i received a letter and have been pouring over the information from doris jones today and find we have common ancestors after all. i see our van dursen family connecting with the son of diereck (dirck) de duyster (duytscher) b c1675 and wife jannetje hendrickse bont (bond). they had 10 children, one a son henry b 1721 who married a daughter of abraham van duersen. another son, johannes de duyster, b 1702 hurley, ulster co. ny m catrina bogardus at kingston, ulster co., ny. boy, there are so many spellings i hope you can figure out who i am talking about. from them, a son dirck (direck or derreck) de duyster ch4 apr 1730 is the one who remained loyal to the british and went to ontario, canada.
the parents of dirck de duyster b c1675 were jan wilhelmszen ye duitscher b c1640 and margaret (grietje) cornelisse, probably kingston, ulster co. ny. they had 14 children. jan's father was wilhelm jansz(en) van heerdenb c1620 according to doris, but wayne, maybe you can help here. and i mean help!
i think jan wilhelmszen was the brother to your roelof (ruloff). i am confused by the charts janice maine sent. maybe the father was supposed to be cornelius, although the mother's surname may be the link. according to janice maine, these do all link together, but i haven't worked on it long enough to fit all the pieces together. a lot of the information i have is missing critical dates. wayne, did any of your line marry into the van duersen/duzer family in ny?

i need to get the names of the other children in each family. what do you folks have? i think the family is in the igi at the fhc from what doris noted on one page.
what do you folks have on chamberlain? i think there was a close relationship between the chamberlains and dutchers in ny.
we have several inches of snow here this morning. i wish it would melt so i could get down to the regional archives today and check on the 1870 census for iowa. if i can find our sarah and her uncle peter living near each other, it will be the final proof we need to identify our **sarah as the daughter of george and maria mase dutcher.

It is always easier when one doesn't have multiple sources. Can anyone help me with the following family??
The Abraham listed as the son of David below is the Abraham I am confused about. Is Abraham the son of David Dutcher and Sarah Storm or Abraham DUYTSER - (1717-1772) Mother: Annatje STORM - (1720-) ?
24-Jul-1997 Descendants of: David DUTCHER
1 David DUTCHER b. abt 1708 to Barant and Martje Conklin DUTCHER.
m. 25-Jul-1730 Sarah STORM; Birth Place: Cortland Manor; Christen Date: 25 Mar 1706; Father: Pieter STORM (1658-); Mother: Margrietie VAN TASSEL. Is this Annatje STORM?
m. Sofia CRANCKHEYT
(I think the LDS Ancestral File ver 4.15 also has him listed as son of other wife, Maratje.) Is this also Abraham DUYTSER and therefore the confusion?
Resided in Philipsburgh.
2 Barent DUTCHER b. abt 1731
2 Petrus (Peter) DUTCHER b. 1733
2 Sarah (Zara) Dutcher b. abt 1735
m. David Cargill b. 1728
2 Isaack DUTCHER b. abt 1738 Enlisted in 1761 with his brother Abraham in Captain Gilchrist's militia company. Settled in Tappan.
m. Geertje GESSLER
3 David Duyster b. 14-Nov-1771
m. 1797 Delilah JONES

3 Isaac DUYSTER b. 10-Oct-1777
3 Sarah DUYSTER
3 Rachel DUYSTER b. 14 Feb 1781
Married David Clark in 1800.
2 Johannes DUTCHER b. abt 9-Nov-1740
2 Abraham DUYTSER b. 1743
m. 27-Sep-1767 Febie (Phoebe) LAMERSEN b. abt 1749 -- One source lists two husbands named essentially Abraham Dutcher.
One with parents we listed and another one with: Father: Abraham DUYTSER -(1717-1772) Mother: Annatje STORM - (1720-)
Christen Date: 22 Nov 1736 Is this the same husband or a second one with the same name?
3 Cornelius DUYTSER b. abt 1771
3 Abraham DUYTSER b. abt 1771
3 Peter DUYTSER b. 26-Jun-1775
3 Margaret DUYTSER b. 2-Jun-1785

Any corrections/additions would be wonderful, especially if you can help withthese conflicts.

Subject: Lydia, a difficult one
OK Folks,
You are getting so good at solving these mysteries that maybe you can crack this case. I know this Lydia fits into my line somewhere, but haven't been able to place her. Anyone know about her?
Thanks,

Subject: Oh gads, help me!!
Hi Folks,
Well, I really got myself in a pickle this time. I posted the following family on the Dutch-Colonies@rootsweb.com list to try to find out about the DeWitt and Bogardus family:
1. Cornelis BOGARDUS. He was married to Rachel DE WITT. Cornelis BOGARDUS and Rachel DE WITT had the following children:
+2 i. Catrina BOGARDUS.
SECOND GENERATION
2. Catrina BOGARDUS was christened on 29 AUG 1703. She was born about 29 AUG 1703 in Ulster Co., NY. She was married to Johannes DE DUYSTER (son of Direck DE DUYSTER and Jannotje Hendrickse BOND) on 24 JUN 1726 in Kingston, Ulster Co., NY. Johannes DE DUYSTER was christened on 4 OCT 1702 in Hurley, Ulster Co., NY. He was born about 4 OCT 1702 in Hurley, Ulster Co., NY.
Catrina BOGARDUS and Johannes DE DUYSTER had the following children:
3 i. Rachel DE DUYTSER was born in 1727. She was christened on 21 MAY 1727.
+4 ii. Lydia DE DUYSTER.
+5 iii. Direck DE DUYSTER.
I've gotten several responses that Catrina Bogardus married Johannes DE PEYSTER, not Johannes DE DUYSTER. Have I made an error in my Dutcher line? If any of you have resources that could check Johannes DE DUYSTER (son of Direck DE DUYSTER and Jannotje Hendrickse BOND) and find out who he married, I'd sure be relieved if it is Catrina BOGARDUS or very embarrassed if it wasn't.
Thanks so much,
Fran
----------------------------
Should be easy to check. Griffin has the marriage of Johannes and Catharine and baptisms of 8 of the kids as being in Kingston Dutch Reformed Church records. The baptism of Heleena in 1743 took place in Rhinebeck and that baptism record is extracted to the IGI with the parents as Cattarina Bogardus and Johannis De Duytser.
(There are a lot of additional records in the IGI and the AF as well, with the same parents but these are submitted without sources.)
Don't give up without a fight! Make 'em show their sources!
