My ggg grandmother, Amelia Dutcher, married Lawrence Simmons, and lived in Dover, Dutchess Co., around 1840. I think her father might have been Belden Dutcher, because he is listed right before Lawrence on the 1840 census. Also, when Lawrence died in 1841, Belden was one of the names in the probate records. Does this ring a bell? If so please e-mail me. Thanks.....

Pam,
I don't know a lot about this Dutcher line (tracing back to Ruluff-Jan-Wm), but what I find in my notes makes me think that Amelia is a sister of Belden, not a daughter. Do you have approximate birth dates for your Amelia or Lawrence or Belden (although I believe there was only one Belden/Belding)?
Belden had 5 known children -- none named Amelia -- though that does not mean he did not have others. Belden was born in 1793 and the first of his children was born in 1814. Belden died in 1876.
Lawrence Dutcher was the father of Belden (and another child) by his first wife Elizabeth Nase. By his second wife, Mary Waldo, he had 11 more children. Among these is an Amelia born in 1813. I don't know anything more about her.
There are other Amelia Dutchers around: One born in 1770 daughter of Barent Dutcher; another born in 1778; another born in the 1820s or later.
I hope this helps,
Sharon (& Roger)

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure of Amelia's age, but Lawrence Simmons was born around 1810, because he was 31 when he died in 1841. They had two small sons, Uriah and Theodore. My gg grandfather Theodore was born in 1839. I haven't been able to trace Amelia after 1841. She probably remarried. I guess she could have been the sister of Belden instead of his child. Do you have any more on Lawrence Dutcher?
Again, thanks for the information!!

Hello,
I am trying to connect my ggg grandmother Amelia Dutcher Simmons as Lawrence's daughter. He was son of Christopher and Mary Belden, who was the son of Gabriel and Elizabeth Knickerbocker, and so on.
Thanks... Pam

Subject: Amelia Dutcher
I thought I would post this again, since we now have this list. My ggg grandmother was Amelia Dutcher. She married Lawrence Simmons and lived in Dover, Dutchess Co. They had two sons, Uriah and Theodore, my gg grandfather. Lawrence died in 1841, when he was 31 years old leaving Amelia with these two small sons. I don't know what happened to Amelia. She probably remarried, but to whom?? I don't know for sure who her parents were, but I think Lawrence Dutcher and his second wife Mary Waldo were. I don't have any proof of this, though. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,
