Hi. Can you help? GGGgf Seneca Dutcher was b c1789, NY; m. Lucretia bc1796, CT; buried 6 Feb 1867, Trenton, Oneida, NY. Known children were Laura (my gggm), Byron, and Charles. I suspect he was son of Simeon and Margaretta (Coon) Dutcher who lived in vicinity of Amenia, Dutchess, NY. If true, further suspect Simeon and Jacob were brothers and likely sons of Gabriel and Elizabeth (Knickerbocker) Dutcher. I'm glad to share.
Thanks.
-------
Regretably, Seneca is still without parents. I became tired looking, it was so fruitless. Right now I am taking on some of the other tough ones. I am looking for gg grandfather Deneen's parents in NJ.
Below is what I have on kids of Simeon and Direck. If you have them you can pitch it. If not, I have done my good deed for the day.
SIMEON AND MARGARETTA (COON) DUTCHER
Dirick, b 13 Oct 1778, Amenia
Georg, b 11 May 1781, Amenia
John, b 28 Jul 1783, Amenia
Ephriam, baptized 6 Mar 1786, Claverack, Columbia, NY
SIMEON AND CORNELIA (DEKKER) DUTCHER
Simeon G, b 17 Sep 1793
Elizabeth, b 26 Nov 1797
DIRK DE DUYTSCHER, WIFE NOT KNOWN
Catherine, no information
Elias, b 11 Oct, buried Round Top Cem, Cairo, Greene, NY m 25 Apr 1776, Amenia, Mary Rose
Simeon, you have data on him.
Please keep Seneca in mind for me. Thanks.
Some Dutchers really screwed us up sometimes by naming their kids after parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Sometimes it helps. So, I may be on to something in my search for parents of Seneca (maybe not). Anyway, his son, Byron M. Dutcher named sons Wilbur, Clinton and Charles.
There was a Wilbur, blacksmith, bc 1798, NY, son of Derrick and Elizabeth (Chapman) Dutcher. Edith was dau. of William Chapman. Wilbur m. Mary A. Hoag, bc1800.
There was a Clinton Dutcher, b 14 Mar 1799, son of Gideon (b 20 Jan 1773, d 18 Jan 1815) and Sarah Manchester (b 10 Nov 1777).
And, Charles was the name of one of Seneca's sons.
Do you have in your data base or among your wide spread correspondents anything more definitive on:
l. Wilbur and Mary A. (Hoag) Dutcher?
2. Derrick and Edith (Chapman) Dutcher?
3. Clinton Dutcher?
4 Gideon and Sarah Manchester) Dutcher?
Many thanks,
KEN

I' grasping for any straw in the search of Seneca's daddy. Some Dutcher out there must own up to being his father. After all, he was MY ancestor, and a unknown number of others, including Scotty Rawson.
A search was made of my data for children born in Dutchess 10 years before and 10 after Seneca's birth, c. 1789, for possible parents. Can anyone, please, help me with a list and birth dates of children of these Dutchers?
1. David Dutcher and Jane Palmer. No data on them. They had a son, Matthew P. b. 12 Jun 1799.
2. Elias Dutcher (b 11 Oct 1755) and Mary Rose.
3. Jacob Dutcher (b c1758) and Susannah Coon.
4. Matthew Dutcher (guess b. c 1772), spouse unknown. d. Dover, Dutchess; had son David b 1796 who m. Amy Browdish (Brundage).
Also, can anyone, please, identify parents of these Dutchers born in Dutchess around 1798?

2. Samuel Dutcher, b. 19 Dec 1798, Washington, Dutchess; wife, Maria Edmonds.

When I was in high school, I played baseball and basketball with John (deceased) and his brother Don (120 W. Main Street, Caledonia, MI 49316.
The Michigan Civil War Vets hit my eye because David W. Dutcher was their great grandfather: b. 29 June 1831, Randolph, Cayuga, NY, m. 20 Oct 1853, Lucy F. Johnson, died 06 Jan 1901 in East Caledonia, Kent, MI. He had 13 brothers. His son Charles was the grandfather of my old associates.
In case anyone is interested, David's greatgreat grandson is John E. Dutcher, Jr., 8012 Whitneyville, Ave, Alto, MI 49302.

Suzanne, this should be your "license" to search for
the parents of Seneca and Lucretia Dutcher, for whom I have been
searching for 11 years.
Byron M. Dutcher was the son of Seneca and Lucretia Dutcher.
Seneca was born about 1789 in NY, died in Feb 1867 in Trenton,

Oneida co.

Children of Seneca and Lucretia:

Precinct,
one time disputed territory between CT and NY).

Catherine Maria: b. 06 Feb 1820, Trenton, Oneida, NY

The following is taken from a section of my family history:
BYRON M. DUTCHER
Byron M. Dutcher was not in our direct line of ancestry, but he
was the brother of Laura Dutcher Hale. He was prominent in the
affairs of his community and doubtless was a positive influence
upon decisions made by Luther and Laura Hale even though he lived
only 47 plus years. In addition, his life was interesting, too,
so we shall accord him some space in the story of our family.
He was born 27 September 1838 in New York, probably Russia
Township, Herkimer County. His parents were Seneca and Lucretia
Dutcher.
We first became aware of the existence of Byron upon noting his
name as a witness to Laura Hale's deed conveying the three acre
tract in Barre, Orleans, NY to Walter Johnson on 19 Apr 1884. In
pursuing the affairs of Luther and Laura Hale, we came across
Byron's death record which verified that he, too, was the
off-spring of Seneca and Lucretia Dutcher.
We know nothing of his youth other than that his father was a
farmer and it is not unlikely he actively participated in
assigned chores common to the pioneer family. On an unknown date
the family moved to Trenton, Oneida, NY
The date of his arrival in Michigan is unknown. He married
Rebecca E. Hunt 04 Jul 1860 at Columbus, St. Clair, MI. The
minister was G. W. Owen.
Their known children were:
Wilbur - bc 1862
Merton V. - b. 1865, was in Madera , CA in 1904
Cassius Elmer (called Elmer) - bc 1867; an electrician of Los
Angeles, CA in 1904
Carrie E. - bc 1866; a teacher; m. 30 Sep 1890, ____ Ewart; of
Pierre, SD in 1904
Clinton Arthur (called A. C.) bc 1868; in 1903 was warden of the
state reformatory at Buena Vista, CO; in 1912 was president of
Western Furniture Co, Montrose, CO
Laura Inastella (called Ina) - b 1873; m 1st Frank Bell; m 2nd,
____ Crouch, of 528 Shrader St, San Francisco, CA in 1904
Charles Orson - b 04 Mar 1875, Richmond, St Clair, MI
Gordon Lee (called Lee, Leroy) - b Jun 1885. Sanilac Co, MI . In
Trinidad, WA in 1904
Byron Dutcher enlisted 09 Mar 1865, age 26, at Pontiac, MI for
one year in the army of the United States. He received a
disability discharge as a Private, Co A, 9th Regiment, Michigan
Infantry on 18 June 1865 at Nashville, TN. Columbus, St. Clair
Co., MI was shown as his home address at that time.
The earliest land transaction noted in Sanilac County was his
purchase of a forty from Jacob Lush on 15 Jul 1868, and another
forty acres two weeks later from Charles Fenwick.
Three years later, Byron had become a veritable real estate
broker. Between the years 1871 and 1882, he and Rebecca were
involved as the purchasers and sellers in 69 different land
transactions. Rebecca handled some of those transactions in her
own name.
Byron must have taken some time off from farming to handle those
transactions, however, he had several strapping boys at home to
keep the farm work going. The plat book of Sanilac County
Register of Deeds revealed that on 09 Aug 11873, Rebecca E. and
Byron M. Dutcher filed a plat for Dutcher Addition consisting of
four blocks in what now is the Northeast portion of the village
of Peck. They filed a second plat just a year later, 03 Aug 1874.
These plats were bounded on the West by Cass River Road and on
the South by Lapeer Road. The four blocks were divided North to
South by Elk Street, and East to West by Rebecca Street. One
recognizes here the influence of Mrs. Rebecca Dutcher or the
tribute paid to her by her husband.
Ethel Hale was a daughter of Luther Henry Hale and married Donald
Devitt. She and her husband, Donald Devitt were visited in August
1986. Donald who was Elk Township Clerk at that time, had in his
possession offficial records containing minutes of the Elk
Township Justice Court, including civil marriages performed.
Byron M. Dutcher's name appeared frequently in those records. He
and H. O. Babcock often served as attorneys for the litigants,
one serving the plaintiff and the other the defendant before the
Justice Court. On several occasions Byron was the plaintiff
seeking judgement on defaulted notes. His name can be found on
numerous legal documents at the county courthouse as he also was
a Notary Public.
His death occurred at the early age of 47 years on 09 Aug 1886.
Heart disease was given as the cause. (No. 189, Book 2, p. 7,
Sanilac Co. Clerk).
There were 320 acres in the B. M. Dutcher estate, according to
the 1890 official plat book of Sanilac County Register of Deeds.
Byron M. Dutcher's will, executed 02 Jul 1883, was witnessed by
his son Clinton, and his attorney associate, H. O. Babcock. He
bequeathed the sum of $50 each to his sons, Byron W. (Wilbur?),
Morton Victor and Cassius E., and $600 each to sons Clinton
Arthur and Charles Orson. To daughters Carrie E. and Ina Stella,
he willed that each should receive $300. the balance of his
property, real and personal, was to go to his wife, Rebecca. The
Probate Court files contain numerous documents relative to
proving and closing the estate. Among claims against the estate
was a claim for $137.37 due Laura Hale. That claim was settled by
payments of $80 and $65 on 02 Sep and 23 Nov 1889, respectively.
Rebecca died 29 Nov 1911, probably in Trinidad, Douglas,
Washington.
An item which may be interesting to speculate upon is the fact
that a son, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather namely,
Kenneth Byron, Jr, Kenneth Byron, Herman Byron and Elmer Byron
Hale, all bore the middle name Byron. Byron M. Dutcher was the
uncle of Andrew Jackson Hale. Possibly Andrew regarded his uncle
so highly that he honored him by passing his name on to his son,
Elmer. That middle name was passed along to three subsequent
generations without their knowing the origin.
